June 27 - July 3: Diesel Prices Decline by 3.2 Cents, Compared to Prior Week

  • On-highway diesel prices increased by $0.02 (0.7%) in the week ending July 24, compared to the previous week. The increase followed four consecutive weeks of declining fuel prices.  

  • The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) revised its short-term forecast for diesel to $2.96 a gallon from $3.05. (For details, see the EIA report on Petroleum Product Prices.) Average diesel prices exceeded $3.00 per gallon from the week ending April 3 through the week ending May 20.

  • The week's average retail fuel price was 15% higher than $2.53, the average for the corresponding week of 2009, and 39% lower than the same week in 2008, which was the first week of declining fuel prices from that year's peak of $4.73. 

  • The average price for the month of June 2010, including taxes, was $2.95, which is 4.4% lower than the average price for May and 13% higher than  the average price of $2.60 in June 2009.
