- Spot market line haul rates rose by 6.5% for dry vans in June, compared to
the corresponding average for May. Compared to last year, spot market rates
increased by 19% for vans, on average, due to increased demand . Rates on the
spot market are those paid to carriers by freight brokers and third-party
logistics (3PL) companies.
- Average contract line haul rates for dry vans increased by 1.4% in June, compared with
May. Compared to June 2009,
contract rates rose by 2.6% year over year.
- Together with a steady increase in the load-to-truck ratio for vans, the spot market rate increase may indicate capacity constraints through the summer season. In July to-date, the national average spot market rate for vans increased by $0.01 to $1.33 per mile
