NOTE: The load-to-truck ratios are displayed in a logarithmic scale, to make it easier to compare ratios
across equipment types and to better illustrate the significance in a deviation from the 1:1 baseline.
- Load-to-truck ratio for refrigerated vans declined by 4.1% on the spot market in the week ending July 24, from 6.22 to 5.96 loads per available truck, compared to the previous week. Reefer load availability declined by 2.0%, and equipment capacity increased by 2.2%, week over week.
- For the month of June, reefer load postings increased by 1% and equipment capacity declined by 10%, compared to May. Capacity is likely to be increasingly constrained throughout the peak summer season, and reefer rates are trending up accordingly. The load-to-truck ratio for reefers in June was the highest in five years.
- There were more than four times as many (308% more) loads per refrigerated truck in June than in June 2009, due to a 161% increase in loads and a 36% decline in capacity, year over year. This is due to the improving trend that began in the second half of 2009, compared with weakness in the fourth quarter of 2008 that lasted through the first half of 2009.
